As a coach, asking questions is a powerful technique to engage and lead clients down an exploratory thought path. It’s one of my most favorite techniques because, time and again, it rewards the client with the most interesting of outcomes – new insight that will forever change their life.
Questions are magical; they can open up new possibilities, opportunities and perspectives — and, often, in just a matter of minutes. Questions can make an impact that can shift careers, move businesses in new directions, and empower individuals like they’ve never experienced before.
In this short series of articles, I’ll share with you three powerful questions, but I’ll only share one for now. Why? Because I want you to become one with the question — to play full out and be committed to just how powerful your answers can be when it comes to shifting your life from where it is now, to where you want it to be. I invite you to engage with it like it’s the last canteen of water in a sea of endless desert. You’re very thirsty; thirsty for your truth.
Time is of the essence. it’s almost the New Year and this question can position you for a powerful new future. Who wouldn’t want that?
Tara’s Powerful Question #1: What can I let go of?
Yes, this one simple question can position you for a more powerful and productive 2015. And, more important, it will give you pause to consider what you’re doing with your most valuable asset — your life, your time, your lifetime!
What happens when you let go of something? When the circumstance is such that the “letting go” is initiated by you, you have a sense of control and mastery over what you plan to do with your life. It’s empowering, it’s energizing, it can increase and strengthen your confidence. Contrast that, for a moment, with the the feelings and energy that you might experience if you had something taken from you. Quite different, indeed.
And, when you decide to let go, on your terms — of whatever it may be — a thought, a mindset, a memory, a habit, a job, a client, a personal or professional relationship — that’s the moment the universe opens to you. It creates a space where you can invite other things in — those that are personally selected and aligned with your vision and values.
Moreover, the process of letting go …
- frees you to engage in your life’s next great adventure
- energizes your soul as your confidence soars
- creates space so you can welcome in other people, things and ideas that align with your heart and soul
- signals growth in that you’ve “been there, done that” and now you’re ready to do new, bigger and better things
- presents you with the opportunity for refreshment and rejuvenation — mentally, emotionally and physically; yes, as you engage in new input and learning, new neural networks are constructed within your brain
Okay, you’ve asked the question, now what? Answering a question is interesting, but that’s not going to change anything. It’s not going to get you where you want to go. The real magic happens when you take action. Life rewards action.
This is when having a strong vision and knowing where you want to go in your life is going to make all the difference. Vision boards, affirmations, journaling and working with a coach or mentor can help you navigate the unknown and create a success plan for achieving your desires.
