My Productive Day: Optimize Your Energy: Manage Your Energy to Increase Productivity
Enough work to do, and strength enough to do the work. – Rudyard Kipling
Energy management is a critical component to enhancing your daily productivity. We all have certain body rhythms. Without a doubt, you’ve heard others say, or you’ve said it yourself, “I’m a night owl,” or “I’m a morning person.” While this is highly generalized, most of us have several times in a day when we find ourselves highly energized, mentally alert and “in the flow.”
To increase your productivity, identify your high energy times of day. Then, schedule the tasks that are a good fit for these times. What activities require high energy, high mental alertness or you being “in the flow”?
Notice I did not say to schedule your most important tasks at this time. Sometimes, the most important tasks are not the ones that require a lot of mental energy. For example, I can return phone calls and have general meetings when my energy is average. These are important tasks, but I typically do not schedule them for my high energy times of the day. For me, high energy times are reserved for coaching clients, doing highly technical work and for activities that involve a great deal of writing.
For today, identify your high energy times of the day and even your week and then schedule in appropriate activities. This will enable you to get things done much more quickly. The right energetic inspiration can make all the difference.
